Alexander Gulline - South East District Youth Lead

I'm Alexander, Youth Lead for South East District

Scouts have been part of my life since I was six. I joined Beavers, made new friends, and tried new things. I've climbed, camped, hiked, helped out, and spoken up, all because of Scouts. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I truly understood how important Scouting is to young people. Scouting gave me a connection, confidence, and a voice, and now, as a Youth Lead, I can help others find theirs.I support groups across the district to ensure that young people are part of the conversation. That means planning with them, listening to their ideas, and giving them real chances to shape what happens next.I don't do it alone, though! I work with a dedicated District Youth Team, a group of 14 to 24-year-olds who help create our vision. We set our goals, shape our strategy, and ask the big questions about what youth-shaped Scouting should look like across our district.Together, we're making sure that young people in the district don't just participate in Scouts; they lead it.

The District Youth Team

The District Youth Team is comprised of Explorers and Networkers aged 14 to 24. They help gather ideas and feedback from the other young people in their groups, and work with me to help shape how youth voice is heard and acted upon across the District. They share what young people are enjoying, what they want more of, and where there are opportunities for improvement. Using this information, we can work with volunteers to ensure young people are getting great Scouting experiences. We aim to represent as many voices as possible, as every group will work differently and have something unique. That's why I'm aiming for one Explorer from each group, and at least three Networkers on the team. The more voices we hear, the stronger and more inclusive we are.

The District Youth Team is currenty comprised of:

  • Alexander Gulline: Youth Lead

  • Craig Ryder: Explorer - 150th Glasgow

Are you a young person and you don't see your group on the list, but want to help out? Speak to your Group Lead Volunteer about joining, and I'll work with them to arrange a time to speak with you. No experience needed! Just a willingness to speak up and get stuck in.

Got something to say? I'm all ears
